Most on here claim to be followers of test cricket as being all that matters, yet nothing so far on the series between sides in cricket ranked #1s and 2. (First time such a series has taken place without Australia since 1987)

Not one of the Future Tours Programme’s finest moments to make it a 2 test series but anyway.

It’s got it all though. Dean Jones’s mate scoring 250; Harbijan proving he’s past it, Kallis being Kallis, Sehwag bringing up a century with a reverse sweep and Steyn being too good for the new generation of Indian players.

And South Africa proving they are the best around. Interesting how they can’t do it at home though.

I have kept half an eye on cricinfo.

The thing is, any other side in the world right now and you'd be saying that's it, India are so f**ked and this game is over.

But if there is one side capable of batting out a test in this situation, it's them.

Damned near India "B" and I know this is sacrilege (even to me) but it must be close to the time the wee fellow hung up his boots.

Fantastic comment on, I think, the BBC site this morning that Tendulkar was good enough to nick one of the balls that defeated Collingwood regularly during the third test of the recently completed series.

Shame SKY doesn't have the rights to yet another overseas test series that would actually be worth watching.

I know it's not entirely on topic, but just wanted to find out what Greatbatch said about coming surprises in the Test team?

Tendulkar, batting with his boots on the hook if some had their way, scores another ton - could he save it ? Supporting cast not good enough possibly.

The slide into mediocrity, or possibly lower, of Duminy continues. Well played though - signed his Satan IPL contract back when he was flavour of the summer.

Z;
When you posted that this morning I tended to agree.

But 4-decade Sachin really continues to amaze. That someone, through no fault of his own, who has been the centrepiece of the tabloidisation (?sp) of cricket, is the classic battler says a lot.

Shit they miss Dravid though.

3 centuries in his last 3 tests.

I wouldn't be rushing to write him off.

Nope, I'll stick to my comment.

He's been playing and carrying India since 1989 and while two years ago I thought he would finish as the second best ever Ponting's inability to overcome the handicap of being both captain and number one batsman mean he (Tendulkar) is now the best ever batsman by far.

He has nothing more to prove and I want to see him retire while he is still the best on his own terms, not when his powers are obviously waning and he struggles to keep up.

I also wonder, and the latest test reinforces my concern, just how much his presence inhibits India's bringing through new top class test batsmen and whether it is not just the massive damage done by candyfloss cricket that has seen the emergence of one genuine world class Indian test batsman, Gambhir, in the last ten years.

(Yes, I include Sehwag)

I know it was 50 Over cricket but I witnessed Tendulkar live at Lancaster Park last tour and he absolutely ripped us apart. It was the day I also saw Southee give up, and I mean totally stop trying, in a NZ shirt.

Sachin was a man a mile away from losing his powers that day. As Virph points out 3 tons in 3 Tests is a pretty good confirmation that that is still the case.

I also thought he would be lauded on here even more than he deserves to be for his playing record alone. This is a man who gave away playing T20 to extend his Test career.

The 2 test series reaching its climax now.

SA choke with a nice 9/80 collapse (T20 to blame for that?). Then Sehwag, with help from an old man, changes it all in a session.

There's a crowd in too apparently.

Meanwhile, far far away from Hamiltron, Tendulkar is attempting centuries in 4 consecutive tests while Sehwag blazes away as only he does.

A runrate of 5.5 an over in a testmatch? Should we blame 20-20 for that too?

SA on the ropes in this one

That list has to be one of the most amazing list of records in cricket.
