Very soon, the New Zealand Cricket Team embarks on the Road to Success by going to the UAE to play Pakistan in 3 tests, 50 ODI’s and 2 T20’s. For me the focus is primarily on the tests as we are only 3 ranking points away from surpassing the 6th placed Pakistan. I think with the disruptions in the Pakistan team at the moment with player issues, and following on from our glorious past year, we should be well placed to succeed again and move one up the ladder.
But importantly too is the ODI’s. Forget T20, with the CWC2015 a few months away this is a time to lock in a team for that event and Pakistan is a good test of our capabilities in that department. We currently sit one ranking point below Pakistan(6th) and with good solid results we not only move up the ladder, but also go into CWC with some confidence.
All in all a good year for NZ cricket ahead, despite having a summer test series here of two tests and 3 ODI’s, better than nothing to get used to Home conditions again.
By the way Saxton Oval has three matches during CWC2015. NZ is involved in none.
October 8, 2014 at 1:30 pm #15912Is that ’50 ODIS’ a typo or sarcasm?
October 9, 2014 at 1:06 am #15918Nuh sarcasm always fairly directed at Pajama stuff. Typo. 🙂
October 9, 2014 at 12:12 pm #15924Yeah, with our mob going well & the Paki’s in a bit of disarray we have an excellent chance of improving our ranking… when does the 1st test start ? really looking forward to watching some cricket again.
October 31, 2014 at 12:13 pm #16114NZ A squad to play 4. 50-over games in the U.A.E next month.
Ryder’s had a few final chances, this one without doubt being his last one, it’s now up to him to make the most of it & perform well on the field & not act like a idiot off it, great to see Milne back playing, those two would clearly be a big plus to the Squad & get back half our top order that didn’t play against S.A. & we are looking bloody good for the WC.
NEW ZEALAND A SQUAD :
Kyle Mills – Auckland Aces (c)
Dean Brownlie – Northern Knights
Derek de Boorder – Otago Volts

Mitchell McClenaghan – Auckland Aces
Nathan McCullum – Otago Volts
Adam Milne – Central Stags
Colin Munro – Auckland Aces
Jesse Ryder – Otago Volts

November 3, 2014 at 10:03 am #16129Signman, you might want to revisit that ‘Pakistan in disarray’ comment. Good job we’re better than Australia otherwise I might imagine we’d struggle for wickets over there.
Fascinating to watch Milne bowling in the Sky private tournament last night. Totally owned the imported Aiden Blizzard, who didn’t manage to hit a single ball in Milne’s second over. Obviously his fitness record is very patchy but I can see why they’re persevering with him – got something none of our other bowlers possess.
November 3, 2014 at 11:47 am #16131Great to see the horse-scratchers from across the ditch getting a bit of a thrashing… I suppose the ‘ disarray ‘ thing doesn’t really seem to matter
much when it comes to teams like Pakistan & India Pie Chucker, they’ve always had stuff like infighting etc going on throughout the years, when I made that ‘ disarray ‘ comment I sort of had a feeling they might still play well, hope they don’t perform as good when we play them, hahaha, going to be a hell of a challenge for our mob.Missed the match, wish I’d seen Milne bowl, having his extreme pace is going to be massive plus for us, not much good being 150 plus if you’re to spray it all over the place though, just before he got injured he was not only very quick but accurate too, sounds like he had a pretty accurate spell last night ?
November 3, 2014 at 11:57 am #16132Yes, Milne’s spell was very demanding. Speed gun mainly had him around 143-145kph but the ball was fair zipping off the surface and absolutely rocketing into the keeper’s gloves. He was a class above any other bowler I saw (admittedly only saw the second innings) although Ben Wheeler also bowled well and looks quite promising.
Canterbury won handily enough, although one did have to wonder whether things might have turned out had the umpire not missed Andy Ellis leg glancing off the middle of the bat straight into the keeper’s gloves before he’d scored. The sort of decision that makes me think they should be using DRS so the really obvious stuff can be corrected – don’t need expensive snicko, hotspot or ball tracking for a decision such as that one.

Excellent news about Milne, NZ is shaping up as a very exciting team for next years WC… we have never had so much depth in our bowling, great to hear another one coming through in Wheeler.November 3, 2014 at 12:59 pm #16134Pie Chucker said :

Yeah, a batsman that wasn’t given out when he should of being can be vital to the outcome of any match, as that batsman can go on & make a big score, whereas had he be given out the scoring rate slows downs, then there’s every chance of getting the new batsman out early as he wouldn’t of had time to get his eye in properly.- This reply was modified 9 years, 4 months ago by signman.

7pm – Sky Sport 8.NEW ZEALAND : Brendon McCullum (capt), Hamish Rutherford, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, BJ Watling, Luke Ronchi, Jimmy Neesham, Mark Craig, Tim Southee, Doug Bracewell, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi.
PAKISTAN : Misbah-ul Haq (capt), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar, Shan Masood, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Talha, Rahat Ali, Imran Khan, Ehsan Adil, Sarfraz Ahmed, Zulfiqar Babar, Yasir Shah.
Umpires : Rodney Tucker (AUS) and Ranmore Martinesz (SRI)
TV umpire : Paul Reiffel (AUS)
Match referee : Andy Pycroft (ZIM)November 10, 2014 at 10:36 am #16176Paki’s 269 for 1 at stumps.
Only watched the first session where they finished up 0-85, was very impressed with both our spinners… not very often Watling stuffs up an easy stumping, that’s the sort of keeping you’d expect from Ronchi.
November 10, 2014 at 6:36 pm #16178Craig made a promising start in the first session, but as the day wore on he was exposed as the limited bowler we probably knew he was. It’s quite difficult to be an orthodox off-spinner these days: he didn’t turn the ball and doesn’t have enough variations to trouble good batsmen on a flat pitch.
More than a bit impressed with Sodhi. His liberal use of flight will probably get monstered by some batsmen, but highly encouraging overall.
November 13, 2014 at 12:36 pm #16193Latham was given a great compliment by the Pakistan commentators, saying he plays spin that well you’d think he’d being playing on these sort of wickets all his life… Taylors a nightmare though against their spinners, he goes far too hard at the ball when ‘ defending spin ‘
Spinners are clearly going to be a lot more accurate than pace bowlers because of the slower pace they bowl… ‘ therefore it’s absolutely bloody vital they get their technique right when defending the Pakistan spinners ‘
our top order would be idiots if they didn’t learn something from the technique Latham used, by letting the ball come to him & always playing with soft hands to help deaden the ball.November 17, 2014 at 12:02 pm #162452nd Test
