The Great NRL Intersite Tipping Challenge

The Great NRL Intersite Tipping Challenge
Posted by Sportsfreak on Thursday, 18 March 2010

Well, Round 1 provided us with the usual mish-mash of results, proving once again that 2010 will be another tough year for a tipster. Sportsfreak is in familiar territory, but it is early days yet. So far, we’re shaping up like this:

Blogging it Real
5 from 8 (running total 5 from 8) – 62.5%
League Freak
4 from 8 (running total 4 from 8) – 50.00%
Sportsfreak
2 from 8 (running total 2 from 8) – 25.00%

So, on we head to Round 2………...

Friday 19th March

Dragons vs Bulldogs

Blogging it Real says: Dragons by 8

“I think the Dragons will carry on the form of last week, and so will the Bulldogs (or lack of). And how much are the Dogs going to miss El Masri?”
League Freak says: Dragons by 10
“The Dragons are the best team in the world right now when it doesn't really count for much, and the Bulldogs are without Michael Ennis. The Dragons really should win this one comfortably. The Doggies are worrying me already.”
Sportsfreak says: Dragons by 6
“The Dogs choked in the wet last week. The Dragons looked pretty good over the Eels, although it wasn’t exactly an earth shattering performance. These games are always tight.”

Rabbitohs v Titans

Blogging it Real says: Rabbitohs by 6

“The Rabbitohs have to make amends for a god damn awful performance last week. The Titans were lucky to get away with a win and may just struggle a bit to get away with that sort of performance two weeks in a row. I'll call it now, the winner makes the playoffs, the loser doesn't.”
League Freak says: Rabbitohs by 2
“Ok so now I'm torn. Souths pack should destroy the Titans, who are just so soft. However Prince and Campbell will make mince meat of the big Bunnies forwards. A big game for both teams if you ask me.”
Sportsfreak says: Titans by 8
“The Titans were average at best last week against the Warriors, but the Bunnies were even worse (which is great news). They surely can’t be good enough to get over the Titans – even away from Queensland.”

Saturday 20th March

Warriors v Sharks

Blogging it Real says: Warriors by 6

“The Sharks look a much better side than last year and a win to them wouldn't shock me but the Warriors should win most of their home games and a bit of passion this week will carry them over the line. If they lose this will be one damn long season.”
League Freak says: Warriors by 8
“Close, tough game, the Sharks put in a heap of effort but they lose. Does that sound familiar? The Warriors need to show their fans something, it is getting ridiculous now!!”
Sportsfreak says: Warriors by 12
“The Warriors had such a great attacking season last year they have reverted to their favourite move – they have scored 2/3 of their tries so far this season by bombing the wing. Outstanding strategy . They looked promising to start, but fell away in a carbon copy of the last few years. They will have a couple of convincing home wins though, and this should be one of them. The Sharks were competitive last week, but they have a huge lack of depth.”

Knights v Storm

Blogging it Real says: Knights by 4

“I'm tipping a big upset here. The Storm just did enough last week on the road but I the Knights look to have a better attack than the Storm faced at Shark Park and the home crowd might lift the Knights over the line.”
League Freak says: Storm by 8
“Up in Newcastle, the Storm will be getting tired now so the Knights will have a big shot at winning this one. Still, how can you tip against a team with as much class as Melbourne?”
Sportsfreak says: Knights by 2
“The Knights took everyone by surprise last week (mainly the Dogs), and will be hoping to keep the ball rolling. The Storm usually take a few weeks to warm up, and are ripe for the picking – especially after a fairly lacklustre performance against the Sharks.”

" On the surface, this looks to be a difficult game to pick - dig a little deeper, and it becomes even more difficult. "

Cowboys v Panthers

Blogging it Real says: Cowboys by 4

“They came home with a wet sail against the Broncos and should have too much class in their own joint. The Panthers will be tricky to beat, but not as tricky away from home.”
League Freak says: Panthers by 14
“This should be a balltearer, these two teams always play great games against each other. The Panthers probably have the better all round lineup but never discount "The Elliott Factor". It is a 20 handicap to Penrith I reckon.”
Sportsfreak says: Cowboys by 4
“The Panthers looked good last week, although it WAS the Raiders away from Canberra. On the surface, this looks to be a difficult game to pick - dig a little deeper, and it becomes even more difficult. I’ll give the Cowboys another chance on home ground advantage alone.”

Sunday 14th March

Eels v Sea Eagles

Blogging it Real says: Eels by 4

“The Sea Eagles suffered a devastating blow losing weasel face for most of the year and remember how shit they were last year when he was sidelined. I think this game will be tight as hell, but the Sea Eagles confidence should be down and the Eels can't start the year with back to back home losses. Can they? But, but, they were being talked up as favourites! In their dreams they are.”
League Freak says: Eels by 18
“Both teams showed enough to suggest they will have good seasons but the Sea Eagles have lost some key players this week. The Eels should win this emphatically!”
Sportsfreak says: Eels by 8
“The much vaunted Eels pack looked a little subdued last week – they should be primed for a big one against the NRL’s biggest poseurs. The loss of Brett Stewart will be huge for Manly. When he was out at this time last year, they struggled badly. At least this time he’s not touching up teenage girls.”

Roosters v Tigers
Blogging it Real says: Roosters by 6

“This game should be a doozy. The Roosters were surprisingly impressive against the Bunnies (who played poorly) while the Tigers went through the motions until they sparked late to steal a win. The Roosters will run from the front and hold them off.”
League Freak says: Roosters by 2
“I hope I'm wrong, I hate the Roosters! The Tigers have a few issues up front, and when their supposed best forward spends his day out in the centers, it doesn't help.”
Sportsfreak says: Tigers by 6
“Monday night’s comeback performance from the Tigers was mighty impressive. They won’t want to give too many teams a headstart like that though, particularly the Roosters who will be buoyed by their win last week. But the Tigers are a classier outfit in this clash, and should have the goods.”

Monday 15th March

Raiders vs Broncos

Blogging it Real says: Raiders by 6

“The Raiders are usually a bitch to beat at home and the Broncos who will probably roll hot and cold all year might be cold on Monday night.”
League Freak says: Broncos by 18
“The Raiders were terrible last week, they need to start better against the Broncos if they don't want to be humiliated. Look for Campese to have another big game.”
Sportsfreak says: Broncos by 10
“Man, this Raiders outfit is nothing like the team that surprised everyone a year or two back. Genuinely awful against the Panthers, they will be a better team at home. The Broncos young side did well to retain composure last week, and should be good enough to beat the hapless Raiders.”
