Not that I am an afficianado of Seth Effricken rugby, but the Currie Cup has been restructured to 8 sides – there is only one weak team at this stage, and the top five is separated by about 4 points or something similar. Apparently the crowds are enormous, after a couple of flat seasons.
The NZRU thought that NZ rugby was a lot stronger than it actually is, and cocked up from day one – FAR too many sides, and there are too many weak teams to carry over the course of the competition.
Solution – reduce the Air NZ Cup to a MAXIMUM of 10 (pref 8).
