With the exception of the catching, that was as polished display in the field as I’ve seen for a long time. Even after lunch.
You can’t say 226 is 50 too many; SA never got away on us (only one 50 partnership) and the fact we kept chipping them out after the ball stopped swinging was a pleasant surprise for me. A good sign of the level of pressure all round was the fact that Bond wasn’t trying to get a wicket with every ball; something he’s reduced to when it all turns ugly.
Expecting miracles? No. Hoping for miracles? yes.
I stick by the “at least 50 runs too many” bit. Day two has shown this is correct.
My reasoning is that too often on day one eight runs were given away in two balls.
