Is this over yet? *yawn*
September 22, 2014 at 11:36 am #15796Unfortunately with the travel factor thing to South Africa & Argentina there’s going to be longer breaks between games.
Cruden dropped for the rest of the comp :

This crap where a players partner is about to have a baby & that player has to leave the squad at the ‘ last minute ‘ is getting really annoying !!! { Cole’s been the latest one } just disrupts the team, if a player isn’t sure whether they’ll be able to play or not they should just pull out of the squad for a certain period, 10.30 Sunday morning is a good time to watch the test.

Argies – { p5 } – 3ptsOctober 3, 2014 at 1:18 pm #15890Got to hand it to Moody he’s a better prop than I thought was, he did a great job in the scrums against the Argies who are one of the best when it comes to scrum time, was impressed with Moody’s work rate last week as well, I’ll make sure to get up & watch this one live, should be a ripper ! …bloody strange call to replace Perenara with Kerr-Barlow on the bench ???

October 5, 2014 at 9:18 am #15898Sorry Richie, is your time nearly up? Two key tactical decisions in this test ruled out us winning the game. Both kickable penalties that all AB captains would have taken. Those decisions will not win us back to back RWC next year.
Good game otherwise, felt Barnes had one of his better games.
October 5, 2014 at 10:06 am #15899Wouldn’t blame Richie too much, if this had been a decider to win the comp he’d definitely had taken those couple of shots at goal, suppose he thought it was worth a crack to keep the ball in hand, especially with the backs we have.
AB’s were pretty flat in the 1st half, came back well after that though… Barnes is still a giant sized twat, when it comes to the really big calls you know he’s hardly ever going to favour the AB’s, that penalty at the end could of gone either way, which was the winning or losing of the match.
October 6, 2014 at 2:50 pm #15901SSMO (and why can’t I quote so it’s obvious to whom I am responding?): McCaw has made tactical mistakes before and will do so again. Not convinced these are closely linked to his future in the team. The reality is the match was closely fought, NZ nearly got out of jail despite struggling throughout but couldn’t quite pull it off. Either team could have won – there have been other occasions during the unbeaten run where NZ escaped against the odds.
The final penalty does raise the question of the influence of the video screen in rugby internationals, when the pictures shown within the ground end up having an influence on the referee and the home broadcaster controls what is displayed. It’s ludicrous that a referee can look at a big screen replay and then decide to call the TMO.
Signman: ridiculous to blame Barnes, and lame to still hold that one match against him. Too stubborn and sure of himself to be one of the best in the business, but the claim he always rules against NZ is without basis.
That said, I’m really tired of the logic that every player trying to intercept a pass with one hand is guilty of a penalisable deliberate knock-down. The idea that the intercepting player has to successfully catch the ball for the act to be legal is just nonsense.
October 6, 2014 at 7:44 pm #15902Pie Chucker – on Barnes, I’d ‘ never ‘ judge a ref on just one match, I’m basically judging him on all the AB matches he’s refereed the blokes in black never seem to get the rub of the green when he’s involved & on most occasions find him very pedantic.
On McCaw turning down those 2 shots at goal, they were not shocking decisions, at the time the Boks were about 11 points ahead, so we at least needed to score a try anyway & with it being at altitude the Boks were always a good chance to kick a penalty from 60 metres plus therefore getting that 11 point lead back again.
It’s pretty clear when a player is trying to catch an intercept pass, they try to knock the ball up, otherwise they just push it straight through with the hand, intercept passes should hardly ever happen, it’s about players not looking properly where they’re passing the pill, most times just dumb blind passing.
October 8, 2014 at 1:35 pm #15913It’s odd to say that about Barnes now when there was no evidence NZ didn’t get the ‘rub of the green’ in that match. NZ’s childish obsession with Barnes, which is led by our pathetic television news programmes, shows our continuing insecurity as a nation.
October 8, 2014 at 3:07 pm #15914Disagree, all you can ask from a ref is a fair crack, generally we don’t get that from Barnes, only other ref that I can think of that falls into the same category as that pompous-pedantic-dickhead would be Steve Walsh over the years, don’t know if you’re a Wgtn or Canes supporter, if you are you’d know what I mean about Walsh.
I agree that the media come out with a lot of pc rubbish, NZers aren’t idiots, they know what’s total crap & what isn’t that comes out through the tv, papers etc, also just because we’re a small nation doesn’t mean we are more insecure than larger countries, with Aussie being a much bigger nation can remember them throwing their toys out the cot quite a few times through the years, in fact they’ve also been known to throw out the mattress as well, hahaha
October 8, 2014 at 3:59 pm #15915Difficult to argue that Walsh wasn’t biased against Wellington.
I thought Barnes’s performance in the match was pretty good overall. Of course there were countless calls that could be argued, but that happens in every match. One notable reason it was such a good match was the absence of the recent trend where referees seem to decide they automatically have to give yellow cards in order to control the match.
Clearly the way replays are currently being used in international rugby is a joke, and needs to be clarified urgently.
A nation that wasn’t insecure would have let go of the Barnes 2007 incident shortly after the tournament. That’s what this is all about (from the media, not necessarily from you).
October 8, 2014 at 7:17 pm #15916Yeah, yellow cards can really ruin games… very tricky one though as players are still getting away with being offside too much, also coming in from the side & spoiling the ball, very frustrating to watch.
Some replays are a real joke, showing a replay 3 or 4 times, when it was very obvious to tell the first time what had happened, also why go back so many phases to check something ? Christ, there’s enough stoppages in rugby already.
Without doubt the Barnes 2007 thing is a media driven thing, most NZ rugby supporters wouldn’t be holding onto that type of stuff, would just be a waste of energy & time, I hardly take any notice of the sports media, unless it’s a good common sense article etc.
One of the things that annoys me is when a player is say inside his own half & kicks a long ball downfield with an excellent weight & it stays within the dead ball line by half a metre, then the opposition player places his foot over the dead ball line, picks up the pill & play has to go all the way back, in some cases 70 metres or more, same when a player punts the ball miles downfield close to the touch line & again the opposition player places his foot over the line… ridiculous bloody rule, as a player has put in a long accurate or well weighted kick & is been bloody punished for it, plus it’s a time waster with players having to go back from where the ball was kicked.
October 9, 2014 at 1:09 am #15919Just wanted to add MTCW re Walsh. He was from North Harbour (so was Billy Bowden) Guess what, Wellington will be in the same comp as Harbour next year and not due to Walsh.
October 9, 2014 at 11:56 am #15920like to have blamed Walsh for Wgtn’s performances this season, but unfortunately I can’t, hahaha… not trying to make excuses, but can anyone think of any other rugby team that has been so pulverised with injuries as wgtn ? { think they used about 45 players this year } rugby in particular is about combinations, loose forward trio, tight five, halfback & 1st five, centre pairing etc, so with all the changes all the time you’re not going to have settled combos, therefore a team will make more mistakes, but it’s never completely just about one thing, thought most of our players attitudes have being piss poor too.
