Paul says……
There is just one present I want from Santa this Christmas – more wins for the Harvey Norman NZ Breakers.
We are hugely disappointed to have returned home from our 15,974 kilometre road trip without winning any of our four games, although I am proud of our effort in scaring the defending champions in Sunday’s final match.
We dipped out to the Melbourne Tigers 119-117 after showing tremendous character to step up and fight despite weary legs and minds.
This trip wasn’t as tough physically as the monster we undertook last season, but in going to Perth, Singapore and Melbourne (via Sydney) it was obviously long and quite draining.
For the guys to still be believing and still be going hard in the Tigers’ den on Sunday was a terrific effort.
And what about Carlos Powell? On the back of his award for being the NBL’s Player of the Month for November he scored 50 points and was quite unbelievable against the league’s best team. He is something special and is a pleasure to play alongside.
The four losses on the road has made it a little bit harder to make the play-offs in February, but we still believe we can nail it and will be doing everything in our power to get back into the Top 8.
Our situation makes Thursday night’s clash against the Townsville Crocodiles at the North Shore Events Centre a huge occasion.
It is going to be easy to get up for it, but it will be tough to win.
The Crocs are on a five-game winning streak and are looking good. But we feel we owe them for the devastating one-point loss we suffered at their hands the last time they were over in October, so it’s going to be a massive match-up.
This is our final home match before Christmas and we won’t be back on the Shore until January 11, having played another four matches in a row overseas during the New Year period.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the people on the North Shore for the great support we have received and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
Now, about that Christmas present I’m after…
