There is an ever-increasing trend in this country for the media to report in the comfort-zone only. Laziness is probably a factor there.
The laziness isn’t only applied to which sports are covered; it’s even the familiarity within them. For example Robz, you talk about the just completed SL v SA test match; the tightest and most interesting test for over a year. If it hadn’t been for a 5-second Dean Jones sound-bite, no-one would’ve known via the MSN. Instead we got daily updates from England B outclassing Pakistan because, well, it’s in England.
Part of this is probably also due to the fact that those wanting more than just the lazy stuff have said f**k it, and now get it from the net; the cricket example above. Many years ago I wrote a letter to Radio NZ when they pulled the English Football scores from Sunday mornings; now I jump on the net to get them; ditto cricket tests, and the latest match-fixing details from Serie A.
