It‘s not a secret that New Zealand has some of the most amazing landscapes in the world. Forests, green hills, mountains and vast rivers just call out for sporty activities. Hiking, trekking, climbing or rafting – there are plenty of ways to be active outside. This article concentrates on rafting and presents the three ways this exciting sport can be performed.

So fasten your seatbelts and read on:

Three kinds of rafting

There are over 10,000 kilometres of coastline and countless lakes and rivers across New Zealand where rafting can be exercised. The most well-known and popular river to perform rafting tours is the Whanganui which stretches across 290 kilometres. There are numerous providers of guided tours and the necessary equipment. If you are planning a rafting tour, be sure to check websites like Groupon whether you can get some water sport deals in Auckland. Rafting itself can be divided into three categories: There is Blue Water, Black Water and White Water Rafting.

  • Blue Water Rafting
Blue Water Rafting offers the most relaxing rafting experience: The focus is on enjoying the beautiful surroundings while being on the water. Accordingly, only the easiest river-routes are candidates for Blue Water Rafting tours since the more challenging one’s demand, the more attention has to be given to navigating the boat.
  • Black Water Rafting
Black Water Rafting is much more of an adventure than Blue Water Rafting. It features trips through caves which differ largely in terms of height and narrowness. Most of the caves aren’t that big but there are a couple of large and branched ones, so it is definitely advisable to always have an experienced guide as company.
  • White Water Rafting
White Water Rafting is the most popular rafting experience and at the same time the most thrilling one. It is all about the adrenaline rush and though it requires some skills and good reactions you don’t need to be an expert in rafting to try it. Make sure to have the right equipment and someone with experience with you and you are ready to go.
