Mike Hosking after the first week of the Americas Cup
1In case you missed Media Watch on Sunday, here is a transcript of some of the highlights of Mike Hosking’s coverage of the first week of the Americas Cup
Fri 13 September
“We’re looking to be 6 nil up at the end of the day, aren’t we? And then we’ve got more racing on Sunday, and then again on Monday. On Monday we will be racing for the Americas Cup”
On Oracle Team USA
“They’re not as good at tacking, and when you toss the postponement card in, you’re not as mentally tough either. Short of installing an outboard and getting Houdini to drive the thing they’re done.”
On mocking the more cautious elements of the media
“Have you been talking to too many sailors? I note that sailors are just like you; they’re all ..” <Insert mocking tone> “Ooh I don’t know about this, ooh the boat might break, ooh the mast might break.. Ooh, an alien might abduct us”
When talking to Grant Dalton:
“You’ve got a better crew, you’ve got a better culture; EVERYBODY says that. That’s not in dispute.
So if it’s not in dispute, why then haven’t you got it won, given it’s a battle of attrition, and given you will inevitably win more than you will lose?”
Punditry doesn’t get any better than that
