NFL Match of the Week with Hamish “Girvana” Girvan
0New York Jets at New England Patriots – 6am Monday NZ time
The Patriots are a team with a mission – averaging 37 points per game, they are dismantling their opposition relatively comfortably and it seems quarterback Tom Brady wishes to prove to the NFL world that ‘deflategate” was a myth. The thing about the Patriots is you can more or less guarantee they will win 12 games per season – win their division and make the AFC Championship game. There is the odd game they slip up on – this only has the slight potential to be one of them.
The New York Jets are under new management and new head coach Todd Bowles has a team that can compete with a not too shabby 4-1 record. They have a great defence including boomerang safety Darrelle Revis who last season won a Superbowl ring with the Patriots. Before that he was a Jets player.
Since Belichick took over the Patriots 16 former Pro Bowl players have played against their old team They have a 0-16 record so the Revis team knowledge may not be as valuable as some think. The Jets defence are only conceding 15 points per game – one of the best in the league this season so the Patriots average score may decline.
Brady has faced the Jets 25 times in his career winning 20 and losing 5 and the odds of hitting 21 wins is pretty good. The Patriots have been given a 9 point start by the bookies – maybe a tad high however they should march on here to another victory.
