Those Player Rating Points Everyone Hates

Without wanting to come across like the NZ Herald / Stuff / TVNZ  online this is actually a rare relatively useful time to throw out some arbitrary MVP ODI marks.  Given the extra ODIs before the Cricket World Cup, and it’s up to 19 now, this is the time to get down with the sport of accumulation points.  And it all started at MtManganui in October.

First game at the Mount. 

Ronchi 3, Boult was best bowler and played a part in the partnership, and Latham scored some runs

Second game 

Again Ronchi 3, McClenaghan 2 Southee 1.

Off to the UAE.  The First game. Easy; Taylor got the ton, Vettori got runs and was the most economical bowler.  Finding a third place getter was tougher; Milne top a tight one there.

New Zealand’s first triumph in Sharjah v Pakistan in 11 attempts. 

These Sportsfreak points are not going to be dictated by ICC Man of the Match presentations. The latter awarded it to Kane Williamson, but it was Henry’s bowling that restricted Pakistan to 20 short of what was needed.  They were bowled out with nine balls in the shed.

Williamson got second, and McClenaghan gets a point despite not batting.

Then the wake-up call at the same venue.  Dishing out points following a humiliation like that is hard work.  But Henry picked up three wickets so that’s another maximum for him.  Williamson edges Ronchi for second place on the basis of having scored five more runs, although the latter’s superior Strike Rate made that a tough call.  Nathan McCullum was unlucky.
