Altrad is a massive brand, but he is also an interesting bloke.. Does the name sound familiar? Of course it does, he’s all over All Black jerseys. Part of the family sponsorship group previously held by Ford, Steinlager etc.
But Mohed Altrad would seem to a bit dodgy. Like, criminally dodgy.
So dodgy, he’s facing a trial for being dodgy.
Yet his name remains on All Black jersies while things are a bit murky in Montpellier.
There are other things going on at NZR at the moment, so maybe criminal links of shirt sponsors aren’t at the first item on the agenda of the monthly Governance Board catch up, but that’s not really an excuse.
So why isn’t this bigger news in Aotearoa?
Finally, it has made the mainstream NZ media, but nobody feels comfortable to put a name to it. What is missing is that the prosecutor has requested 3 years imprisonment for Laport and Altrad, and a ban from any activity related to rugby for 2 years.
Verdict due on 13 December.
