“To Streak or not to Streak” – that is the question.
3The case for
Everyone looks and laughs and thinks it’s great, and then what do we get? Yes that’s right a bunch of do-gooding wowsers condemning the act of someone donning their Birthday Suit and running onto the field of play for a mere 30 seconds during a rather average Rugby Test in an act that has almost as much tradition as the Argentinean National Anthem or the Haka.
Such was the case when Flaxmere Woman Rosa Kupa took advantage of one of the many stops in play on Saturday night and during one of those ghastly Mexican Waves (which have potential to cause far more danger or damage) took her chance and went for it.
All Black Coach Steven Hansen was seen smirking from the All Blacks Coaching Box yet changed tack and condemned the act post game (in fact encouraging more of the nasty assaults perpetrated by over-zealous Security Staff that have occurred in previous incidents). This probably mirrored the view of 98.7% of the people there.
However, is there anything really wrong with streaking especially when the question “what damage could a 70 kilogram naked woman do to one of our finely tuned All Blacks” is posed? The answer is very little really. This is a time worn tradition that like everything done in moderation is perfectly fine.
Clearly the Hawkes Bay court system seems to agree as it has essentially given Ms Kupa a slap on her (naked) wrist with a wet HBCC bus ticket by not levying a fine or conviction but trespassing her from Mclean Park for 2 years (given it was 18 years between All Black tests in the Bay, this essentially acts as a non-penalty and is also nearly impossible to enforce given the ease at which it is to enter any sports ground in New Zealand these days of which McLean Park will be no different).
So we here at Sportsfreak say ‘well done Rose’ follow your dreams and clear that Bucket List, anyone with the courage to strip naked and run on to a Rugby pitch in front of 22,000 people and a world-wide television audience wearing nothing but a smile and a non-label beanie in the middle of Winter deserves praise – not condemnation.
You go girl.
What a load of crap.
One phrase in here sums it all up. No, it’s not Rosa Kupa .
It’s Flaxmere
