Trent Boult. Compare and contrast
2One thing is for sure; Trent Boult likes fielding in the point area on the west side of the Basin Reserve. In late 2013 he took a screamer to dismiss Denesh Ramdin off Corey Anderson.
In early 2015 he did something similar to remove Kumar Sangakkara who happened to be on 203 at the time and had played one of the great test innings.
Ramdin
Sangakkara
The Ramdin catch was probably marginally the more athletic, and the ball was travelling faster. The Sangakkara catch was the more important. Both were taken late in the afternoon which says a bit about Boult’s fitness.
But the best bit about the Sangakkara video is the way the New Zealand players reacted as he left the gound. This mirrored the Sri Lankan reaction as McCullum left Hagley Oval a week ago.
There are some cricketers on the other side of the Tasman who could take note of that.
EDIT: With help from Ben Hurley from 7 Days who pointed out that a catch off Rahane, also on the west side of the Basin Reserve, was pretty special too.
The Ramdin one better for me. The catch off Rahane at the Basin last year was also sensational, in a different way. But the catch off Pollard in the Windies maybe the best?
